A fundamental part of the scientific process is to distinguish between correlation and coincidence. In order to address that question, we need to be able to estimate the likelihood of seemingly unlikely events. In this course students will explore the foundational principles of probability, apply those concepts to solve real world problems, and gain experience communicating our analysis in written and oral formats. Students successfully completing this course will produce a portfolio of compositions demonstrating their understanding of probability theory and mathematical communication.
